What Folks Ask Us Most

Straight from the coop at Haven Hatchery

Welcome, friend! Whether you’re new to quail, curious about our eggs, or just wondering how it all works—we’ve got you covered. Below are some of the questions we hear the most. If you don’t find your answer here, feel free to reach out—we’re always happy to help.

Where are you located?

We’re tucked away in the heart of Weir, Mississippi—raising Coturnix and Bobwhite quail with love and care on our little family-run homestead. While we don’t have a storefront (yet!), we do sell locally, at events, and ship certain items straight from our hatchery to your door.

What do you sell?

Our offerings vary by season, but here’s a peek at what you might find:

• Eating eggs (fresh and pickled)

• Hatching eggs (variety dozens & specialty celadon)

• Breeder sets (hand-raised & ready)

• Quail meat (when available)

• Farm-crafted extras like feather earrings and gift cards

Can I visit the farm?

We’re not set up for tours just yet, but we’re dreaming of the day! For now, we keep things safe and secure for the birds and our boy Haven, who inspired this whole journey. We do occasionally offer porch pick-ups—just message us to arrange.

Do you ship?

Coming Soon! Soon we will ship hatching eggs and some small farm goods within the U.S. Due to the delicate nature of live animals and local laws, we do not currently ship live birds or meat. If you’re local to Mississippi, reach out—we may be able to coordinate pickup or delivery.

How do you pack hatching eggs for shipping?

Coming Soon! With a lot of love and foam shipping wrap! We carefully label each box, cushion every egg, and pack with foam, paper, or padding to keep them safe on their journey. Still, once they leave our hands, we can’t control how they’re handled—so we don’t guarantee hatch rates, but we do our best to set you up for success.

What’s your hatch rate?

That depends on a few things—your incubator setup, temperature stability, humidity, turning schedule, and postal handling. On our end, we hatch 75–90% most seasons, but shipped eggs often see lower rates. We always recommend setting your expectations around 50–70% for shipped eggs and giving those eggs a little time to rest before incubating.

Are your birds NPIP certified?

We’re working toward NPIP certification (testing in the next month) and take biosecurity very seriously. While we are not currently certified, our birds are healthy, well-cared for, and monitored daily. We’re small but mighty and treat each quail with the same care we give our family.

What do your quail eat?

Our birds eat a balanced high-protein game bird feed, often supplemented with greens, herbs, extra calcium and love. We never use antibiotics or hormones—and we believe happy quail make the best eggs and meat.

Can I mix and match hatching eggs?

Absolutely! We offer variety dozens so you can hatch a rainbow of birds—browns, celadons, tuxedos, and more. Just let us know if you have preferences, and we’ll do our best to accommodate based on what’s laying.

Do you offer refunds or replacements?

Because we’re working with nature and the postal system, we can’t offer refunds on hatching eggs or perishable items. If something arrives damaged, though, please send us a photo within 24 hours—we’ll make it right where we can. Your trust means everything to us.

Can I request a custom order or gift set?

We love custom requests! Whether it’s a gift basket of pickled eggs, a feather jewelry set, or a “starter quail family,” we’ll do our best to bring your vision to life. Just message us directly to chat.

How can I support your farm?

Every order, share, or kind word keeps Haven Hatchery growing. Sign up for our newsletter, follow us on Facebook, or leave a review. Most of all, thank you for choosing small, local, and heartfelt.
